How to Remove or Install a Hard Drive in Swann MaxRanger™ Power Hub
MaxRanger4K™ Power Hub has a few ways to have local storage where event clips will be saved:
Micro SD Card
In most MaxRanger4K™ kits, it includes a Micro SD card which you can upgrade up to 512GB if the supplied card is not enough.
DISCLAIMER: We cannot guarantee compatibility with MicroSD cards from all manufacturers. For best results, use a minimum Class 10, U3, V30 SDXC or high-speed equivalent MicroSD cards from reliable sources.
Internal HDD
For Internal HDD, there is a SATA and power cable inside the hub which can connect to a 2.5” hard drive with up to 5TB.
STEP 1: Remove the feet
Remove the two rubber feet to expose the screws
Although the antenna is still connected in the images, we recommend removing it first to avoid breaking it.Step 2: Unscrew
Unscrew the four screws to release the bottom plate.
Step 3: Unscrew more
Unscrew four more screws to release the hub's frame
Step 4: Face down
Place the hub facing down (rear side up)
Step 5: Slide the frame
Slide the frame away (to the right following this image) from the bottom plate
Step 6: Connect and Screw to Lock
Slide the 2.5" HDD to the tray then secure it with screws.
NOTE: Mounting screws for 2.5" HDDs are not included in the Hub. Please purchase the screws (typically known as M3X5 type screw) separately
TIP: It is recommended to have the SATA and power connection at the bottom for a cleaner and organized look while also decreasing the chance of accidentally ripping off the cable.
TIP: You can also re-use the sticky tape to secure the cable.
If you are upgrading the HDD:
- Unscrew the HDD from the tray so you can disconnect the cables and slide the HDD out
- Replace it with your new HDD
- Lock it in place by screwing it to the HDD tray
- Connect the cables again
To close the hub, follow the steps from Step 5 to Step 1
External HDD
MaxRanger4K™ Power Hub can support external HDD up to 8TB using the USB Storage port to be used as an additional storage drive for recordings.
DID YOU KNOW? Changing HDD or Micro SD card doesn't affect the operating system of your recorder, unlike in PCs. These local storages are only used to store and play recordings; therefore, it is safe to replace them if you need to.
NOTE: Don't forget to format the HDD or Micro SD card once you turn on your recorder to store event clips.
